With the election efforts running all-time high, all the campaigning parties are advocating their policies and manifestos to the nation. I feel that what stands out from the campaigning efforts, was the actions that were executed and efforts on COVID -19 management. I still remember that the Malaysia government announced the Movement Control Order(MCO) in less than 24hours notice resulting in grave inconvenience to a massive group of Singapore citizens, permanent residents, students, and workers that commute between Malaysia & Singapore on a regular basic.
A large group of Malaysians were trapped in a dilemma with nowhere to stay and therefore took to the streets of Singapore from 18 March 2020. It was very hearting to know that Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Miss Grace Fu in less than 12 hours turnaround time, announced that the Jurong East Sports Hall will be open up to receive these stranded Malaysian workers. Besides offering a temporary lodging for the workers, the Singapore government also provided necessities to assist them in the temporary shelter. How do I know this is true? I was one of the volunteers who went around to assist the stranded workers in Singapore and directed them to the Jurong East Sports Hall for the lodging.
As I went on to continue my volunteer work for the stranded workers in Singapore, one of my initiatives was to provide meal coupons to the workers to help them tide over their daily meals requirements in Singapore. It was to my surprised that Minister Grace Fu came upon my efforts on the initiative and shared it over her social media platform for awareness and the outreach was amplified greatly as more help poured in to support my initiative. Sponsors and kind donations came in gradually and our efforts to support the stranded workers were able to continue in greater success, I am also very thankful for Minister Grace’s shout out on the social media which led to our Singaporean volunteer, Eric who is an active community grassroots leader from Keat Hong to join us in our efforts to help the stranded workers. Eric was a great asset to our team as he is familiar with the policies and guidelines for managing community outreach programs.
I would like to express my thanks to Min Grace for her leadership in her ministry and true to heart actions that really showcase a good government who cares and place humanity as a priority above all. It truly shows a great government and leadership is a nation greatest asset and I feel proud to be part of this nation even though I may not be able to vote for the election.
Singapore is truly a great country with the right team, right leaders who put people in the center of what they do.
Sincere Thanks to Min Grace and best of luck to the election campaign for you! YuHua Estate is fortunate to have you there!
